Anthropic released Claude Fable 5.1 and a science-focused sibling model, Mythos 5.1, bringing steep price cuts alongside claims of real scientific breakthroughs. Plus: Google launches Pix, a nano banana-powered image creation and editing tool built directly into Docs and Slides.
Anthropic released two new models this week: Claude Fable 5.1, available to everyone on Claude.ai, the API, and now all three major clouds (AWS, Google Cloud, and Azure), and a sibling model called Mythos 5.1, which carries fewer safety restrictions but is gated to vetted cybersecurity and life sciences professionals through a verification program.
Anthropic is leaning hard into the science angle: Mythos 5.1 reportedly designed protein binders with 10 times higher affinity than competition-winning results, and the models were used to reconstruct a high-resolution elevation map of Venus from a 30-year-old NASA dataset. On the more everyday side, they also sped up seven different deep learning models by up to 2.5 times.
But the bigger story for anyone building on these models is pricing: cache reads dropped 75%, typical workloads are roughly 25% cheaper to run, and complex multi-step agentic tasks are seeing up to 45% in savings.
Ashley's take: the price cuts matter more to most businesses than the benchmark scores do — a 25 to 45% cost reduction on agentic workloads is the difference between running a pilot and actually scaling a process across a team. If you're deciding whether to build on Claude right now, that's the number that should catch your attention, not the Venus map.
Then: Google launched Pix, a nano banana-powered image creation and editing tool built directly into Docs and Slides for AI Pro, Ultra, and Workspace users. You can generate images from a text prompt and get multiple options, isolate and edit specific objects inside an image, or even edit and translate text embedded in an image, all without leaving the document you're working in. It's rolling out now in Docs and Slides, with Drive integration coming soon, plus a standalone version at pix.new. Access depends on plan: Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers and most Workspace business customers will get it over the coming weeks.
Google's framing was blunt — people shouldn't have to jump between applications to create and share visuals, a direct shot at Canva built right into the tools people already use. Ashley's take: this is the kind of AI feature that actually changes daily workflows instead of just being a headline. It won't replace a real designer for polished brand work, but for the internal deck, the one-off social graphic, or the image you need in a proposal by 3 p.m., it removes real friction. If your team is already on Google Workspace, it's worth testing this week.
